Columbia Drops Game One to Missouri Baptist

St. Louis, Mo. – The Cougars of Columbia College traveled to the campus of Missouri Baptist University today to take on the tenth-ranked Spartans in game one of their weekend conference series. 

After leading for much of the contest, the Cougars would give up three late runs to drop the series opener. Columbia is back in action tomorrow against Missouri Baptist for games two and three of the series. 

The Cougars got the scoring started in the first inning with a one-run single from Tyler Renn. Then, Cayden Nicoletto would score on a passed ball.

In the second inning, David Dell homered to score two runs to put the Cougar lead at 4-0. Following Dell’s home run, Indy Stanley also homered to score three runs, extending CC’s lead to 7-0. 

Columbia took advantage of an MBU error in the third inning to add another run to their now 8-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the fourth, the Spartans found their offensive groove as they notched six runs to cut the deficit to just two runs. 

The fifth and sixth innings had both teams scoreless, but the Cougars used a one-run double from David Dell to score in the seventh. 

The Spartans added two more runs in the seventh with a home run from C. Roll. 

Leading 10-8 heading into the ninth inning, the Cougars were unable to score as they left one on base. 

In the bottom of the ninth, the Spartans managed a two-run walk-off homer un to take the game one win, 11-10.
