Baseball Records Second-Straight AMC Sweep


Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College baseball team recorded its second-straight American Midwest Conference (AMC) series sweep, after winning game three against Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday, 13-6.  
Columbia: 24-5 (7-2 AMC)
Hannibal-LaGrange: 6-18 (0-9 AMC)

Game 1 (Friday): Columbia def. Hannibal-LaGrange, 4-3 (7 innings)

The Scoring:

  • T1 (HLGU): The Trojans scored two runs on a double and fielder’s choice (CC 0, HLGU 2)
  • B3 (CC): The Cougars scored seven times in their half of the third, Highlighted by a three-run double from Jarrett Newell (CC 7, HLGU 2)
  • T4 (HLGU): Hannibal-LaGrange added a run on an RBI single (CC 7, HLGU 3)
  • B4 (CC): Columbia responded with a pair of runs off an RBI double from Bryce Torricelli and a run scoring single off the bat of Kole Ficken (CC 9, HLGU 3)
  • T5 (HLGU): An RBI single scored a run for Hannibal-LaGrange (CC 9, HLGU 4)
  • B6 (CC): Braden DeSonia and Indy Stanley recorded RBIs in the inning (CC 11, HLGU 4)
  • B7 (CC): Riley Poulton hit a solo home run to right center (CC 12, HLGU 4)
  • T8 (HLGU): Hur hit a two-run home run for the Trojans (CC 12, HLGU 6)
  • B8 (CC): Myles Jasper scored on a wild pitch (CC 13, HLGU 6)

Inside the Box:

  • Kole Ficken went 3-5 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored
  • Devyn Lopez reached base four times – three walks and one hit.
  • Braden DeSonia, Kellen Williamson, Bryce Torricelli, and Riley Poulton had two hits each.
  • Jarrett Newell drove in three runs.
  • JP Schneider improved to 4-1 on the season, after going 5.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and striking out five.
  • Travis Bassford and Alex Grellner combined to go 4.0 innings in relief allowing two earned runs and racking up four Ks.
