Baseball Moves to 6-1 After Doubleheader Sweep

Point Lookout, Mo. – The Columbia College baseball team swept a doubleheader against College of the Ozarks on Sunday. The Cougars won three of four games in the series against the Bobcats.
 
The Cougars are now 6-1 on the season, while Ozarks moves to 3-5.
 
The 6-1 start is tied (2020) for the best seven-game start in program history. 
 
Series Results:
Game 1 final (Saturday): Columbia def. Ozarks, 8-0
Game 2 final (Saturday): Ozarks def. Columbia, 8-2
Game 3 final (Sunday): Columbia def. Ozarks, 7-2
Game 4 final (Sunday): Columbia def. Ozarks, 18-9
 
Game 3: Columbia def. Ozarks, 7-2
The Scoring:

  • B3 (CofO): A two-run home run put the Bobcats up early. (CC 0, CofO 2)
  • T5 (CC): The Cougars scored four times, highlighted by a Devyn Lopez two-RBI single. (CC 4, CofO 2)
  • T6 (CC): David Dell’s two-run double and an RBI double from Lopez gave Columbia the five-run advantage. (CC 7, CofO 2)

 
Inside the Box:

  • Devyn Lopez went 2-4 at the plate with three RBIs.
  • Duffin Makings reached base three times with two hits and a walk.
  • Three of the Cougar hits went for extra bases.
  • JP Schneider earned the win tossing four innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits.
  • Bryce Taylor went three innings in relief, giving up three hits and striking out a pair of batters.

  • B1 (CofO) – The Bobcats struck first on an RBI double (CC 0, CofO 1)
  • B3 (CofO) – Ozarks added four more, highlighted by a three-run home run (CC 0, CofO 5)
  • B4 (CofO) – C of O scored two more runs (CC 0, Cofo 7)
  • T5 (CC) – Brett Mooney got things started for the Cougars with a two-run home run. The Cougars would add nine more runs, capped off by a Devyn Lopez two-run homer. (CC 11, CofO 7)
  • T6 (CC) – Columbia added seven more runs in their half of the sixth, with the big hit being a three-run home run from Ian Stanley. (CC 18, CofO 7)
  • B7 (CofO) – Ozarks plated a pair of runs in the last inning (CC 18, CofO 9)

 
Inside the Box:

  • Columbia banged out 15 hits.
  • Seven of the 15 hits went for extra bases – three home runs and four doubles.
  • Four players had multiple hits – Ian Stanley (3), Brett Mooney (3), Braden Desonia (2), Kole Ficken (2).
  • In total, nine players had at least one hit.
  • Stanley, Mooney, and Desonia drove in three runs, while Desonia and Lopez scored three times each.

 
Up Next:
The Cougars travel to Springfield, Mo. on Wednesday, Feb. 23 to take on Baptist Bible College. The doubleheader begins at 1:00 PM.
