Baseball Garnering Attention in National Polls

Justin Colon

COLUMBIA, Mo. — On the heels of its three-game sweep of No. 2 Tennessee, the Missouri baseball team broke into several national polls Monday for the first time in 2023.

The Tigers enter the rankings as high as No. 15 in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. Missouri also earned the No. 18 spot in Baseball America’s poll, a No. 21 placement in both the NCBWA and USA Today Coaches Polls and a No. 22 rank in D1Baseball.com’s survey. It marks the first time that Mizzou has been nationally ranked since May 2019.

Mizzou brings a five-game win streak into the week after completing an 11-1 home stand by sweeping Tennessee, the defending Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament champion. The Tigers dominated the weekend, outscoring the Vols by a 23-6 margin en route to their first SEC series sweep of a ranked league foe since joining the conference in 2013.

Rising to No. 17 in Monday’s NCAA Division I RPI ratings, the Tigers are 16-3 overall, including their first 3-0 start to conference play since 2017.
