LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Missouri soccer team ended the Border War against Kansas in a 2-2 draw on Sunday, Sept. 3. The contest marked the first tie against the Jayhawks since Nov. 3, 2008. The Tigers topped KU in shots (16-5), shots on goal (7-2), and corners (6-0).

How It Happened

Missouri got on the board early, scoring the contest’s first goal in the ninth minute. The shot came from junior Leah Selm before bouncing off the post, then the goalkeeper and in. The Tigers continued to pressure as sophomore Jessica Larson had a good look in the 31st minute. Mizzou entered halftime up 1-0, outshooting Kansas 8-3 and earning two corners to its zero.

Early in the second half, sophomore Kylee Simmons came close to putting Missouri up by two with a header that skipped over the crossbar. Freshman Shania Spriggs followed that with a tough run from midfield and shot that the Kansas keeper saved in the 55th minute. Despite the consistent pressure, KU scored on its first corner of the game in the 70th minute to tie the contest 1-1. The Tigers bounced back quickly, with Larson netting the first of her career from Simmons.

The Jayhawks tied the game again, scoring in the 85th minute to knot the game at two all. The Tigers were aggressive, attempting to earn the win in the final four minutes. However, the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
