Soccer Drops Road Game at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Missouri soccer team dropped a road contest at the University of Nebraska, 5-0, Thurs. Aug. 31. Mizzou moves to 2-1-1 on the season, while the Cornhuskers go to 4-0-1.

The Huskers topped the Tigers in shots (14-5), shots on goal (11-1) and corners (3-0).

How It Happened

The first half was back and forth with flashes of opportunities from the Missouri offense. It was Nebraska, however, that got on the board first. The Cornhuskers scored in the 18th minute, and the game stayed 1-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Nebraska scored three goals, pushing the score to 4-0. Mizzou tried to pressure late, as sophomore Keegan Good had her shot deflected in the 70th minute. However, the Cornhuskers added another in the 80th minute.

Game Notes 

  • Missouri moves to 3-21-0 all-time against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
  • Seniors Hannah Joella and Jenna Bartels made their first starts of the season. Additionally, this marks the first start for Joella since March 3, 2021, against BYU.
  • Freshman Kate Phillips made a career-high six saves in the contest.
  • Both Grace Pettet and Rachel Kutella played 90 minutes, marking the fourth and third time, respectively, for the seniors this season. Additionally, junior Milena Fischer went the distance for the first time this season. 
  • The Tigers were held to single-digit shots (5) for the first time this season.
