JV Brown Signs to Join Mizzou Basketball

JV Brown

The Missouri men’s basketball team added a fifth member to its highly-ranked Class of 2023 when JV Brown (Los Angeles, Calif.) signed to join the Tigers for the 2023-24 season, announced Wednesday.

A preferred walk-on, Brown joins four signees during the early signing period as Mizzou owns one of the nation’s top classes. The Tigers currently place No. 21 in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports composite rankings – the top class for MU since finishing with the No. 4 group in 2017.

“We are thrilled to have JV join our program,” said Whitten Family Men’s Basketball Head Coach Dennis Gates. “He embodies our eight core values and will represent the Mizzou brand in the classroom, on the court and in the community. On the court, JV has a relentless work ethic with a high basketball IQ and a tremendous ability to shoot the ball and stretch the defense.”

A 6-4 shooting guard from Los Angeles, California, Brown led Rolling Hills Prep to 23 wins this season, scoring 16.0 points per game with 62 made 3-pointers in 27 games. Among his accolades as a senior, Brown was named to the All-Coastal Team as well as earning Damien Classic and Mira Costa All-Tournament Team accolades. A team captain with the Huskies, he was named a McDonald’s All-America nominee this season.

“We’re really excited for JV to fulfill his dreams and see how good he can be,” said Rolling Hills head coach Harvey Kitani. “Under Coach Gates’ leadership, we can see JV surpassing a lot of expectations and reaching his ultimate goals. One of his biggest strengths as a person and a basketball player is his tremendous attitude as he improved every season. Because of him and his leadership, our team surpassed our expectations this season. He was our top player but also showed up to practice every day, led in his way and acted as a team player in every aspect.”

Brown has also played AAU with the Compton Magic program.

Brown joins a class that includes NLI signees Jordan Butler, Trent Pierce and Anthony Robinson II in the Tigers’ No. 21 class, as well as preferred walk-on Danny Stephens. It marks the second-straight ranked class for Gates as Mizzou head coach as he inked the nation’s No. 2 transfer class during the spring of 2022.
