Women’s Basketball Earns Commanding Victory Over Texas A&M

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri Women’s Basketball team eased to a 61-35 victory over Texas A&M Monday night at Reed Arena.

Propelled by three players in double figures, Missouri (17-10, 6-8 SEC) jumped out to a 14-4 advantage in the first frame and continued the momentum throughout earning the wire-to-wire victory.

Freshman guard Ashton Judd (West Plains, Mo.), sustained her offensive hot streak and led the team in the scoring column for the first time this season with 16 points. Judd has scored 15+ in consecutive contests and has totaled 10+ in four of the last five.

Senior forward Hayley Frank (Strafford, Mo.) and graduate guard Haley Troup (Gadsden, Ala.) supplemented the offensive effort with 11 points apiece. Frank added three assists and controlled the game on the defensive end with five charges. Troup connected on 4-of-6 shots from the field including a perfect 3-of-3 performance from beyond the arc.

Leading by 10 after the first quarter, Missouri continued to pressure Texas A&M (6-18, 1-13), limiting the opposition to just six points in the second stanza.

The 10-point total at the break total is the lowest the Tigers have constrained an opponent to in a half this season. Missouri has held its opposition to single-digit scoring in 13 quarters this year.

Leading by 11 with just under six minutes remaining in the third, the Tigers strung together a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach. The scoring charge was capped off by step-back midrange jump shot by graduate guard Katlyn Gilbert (Indianapolis, Ind.).

Missouri continued its control of the contest in the final quarter as the Tigers shot 72.7% and were led by redshirt junior forward Micah Linthacum (Jefferson City, Mo.) who notched five points in the final three minutes of action.

The Black and Gold converted 42.9 percent of their attempts from distance marking the ninth occurrence of a 40+ percentage rate this season. Missouri is 8-1 when it achieves the statistical shooting mark on the year.

The Tigers held the Aggies to just 26.4 percent from the field, the fourth-lowest rate of the current campaign for Texas A&M.

Missouri will close out the season’s road contests at 6 p.m. Thursday with a visit to Oxford, Miss. to face Ole Miss. The contest will be broadcasted on SECN+ and KTGR.
