2023 Captains Announced by Soccer Ahead of Spring Slate

Soccer Captains Pettet and Selm

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer Head Coach, Stefanie Golan and staff announced Thursday, Feb. 9, senior Grace Pettet and junior Leah Selm will serve as team captains during the 2023 campaign.

“We are excited to name Leah as a captain alongside Grace as we head into the Spring, said Golan.” Leah grew into a player in the fall who we struggled to take off the field because of the impact she made, and she came back this spring having clearly put in the work to prepare over the break. She is committed to our Take the Stairs culture, and we wanted to put her in a position as a designated leader where she can work to elevate the program as a whole. Grace & Leah will be a good pairing, and we are interested to see whether anyone else joins them in a designated leadership role by the time we head to the fall.”

Pettet, a defender from Tulsa, Okla., captained the team during the 2022 season and was one of two Tigers to play every minute of all 17 matches, scoring her first career goals in back-to-back games against Ohio State (Aug. 21) and Southern Illinois (Aug. 25). In the past, she was a member of SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll (2020-21), received All-SEC Second Team honors (2022), and earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors (2022).

Selm, a midfielder from Manchester, Mo., started in all 17 matches during the 2022 campaign, playing a total of 1,478 minutes, including the full 90 minutes on 13 occasions. She secured her first career goal on Aug. 25, a game-winner to beat Southern Illinois, while also providing the game-winning assist against Ohio State on Aug. 21.
