Women’s Basketball Wins Fifth-Straight

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women’s basketball team secured their fifth-straight win of the season this afternoon against Harris-Stowe (Mo.), 64-50.
 
Columbia moves to 14-4 on the season and hold an undefeated American Midwest (AMC) record at 7-0. Harris-Stowe falls to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
 
Harris-Stowe put up five quick points to start the contest, but it was all Columbia the rest of the way. A layup by Clare Shetley started the 9-0 Cougar run, taking a 13-7 edge over the Hornets into the second quarter.

Harris-Stowe took the Cougar lead to down one on two successful shots from the paint, 15-14. Columbia scored four of the last six points, taking a 31-25 lead into halftime.

Columbia went on to extend their advantage to 18 points, ending the third quarter on a 6-0 run.

The Cougars took their largest lead of the game a minute into the final period, 52-32. The Hornets got within 13, but it was not enough to overcome the Columbia advantage.
