Women’s Basketball Opens Play at Christmas City Classic

NCAA WBB: Mizzou Tigers vs. Idaho State Bengals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Mizzou Women’s Basketball (5-0) will take on Columbia (5-1) to open the Christmas City Classic on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. The Tigers will then face either host Lehigh (4-1) or Rider (0-3) on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT. If Mizzou takes on Lehigh, the game will stream on ESPN+.

Mizzou is off to the program’s best start since 2015-16 when the Tigers won 13 consecutive games to begin the season. Last time out, the Tigers defeated a tough Troy team 76-63. Aijha Blackwell and Haley Troup led the way for Mizzou. Troup added a career-high 20 points while Blackwell put up another double-double with a 21-point, 18-rebound effort. Four Tigers scored 72 of the Tigers’ 76 points (Blackwell, Troup, Frank, Dembele).

On Tuesday, guard Izzy Higginbottom was named SEC Freshman of the Week after leading the Tigers in scoring in back-to-back games. She is the first Tiger to earn Freshman of the Week honors since Aijha Blackwell in 2019-20.

Mama Dembele matched her career high of 13 points against Troy. She and Troup are tied for the team lead in assists with 19 over five games.
