Volleyball Treks to Wyoming for UniWyo Invite

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball (2-4) heads west for the UniWyo Invite on Fri., Sept. 10 and Sat., Sept. 11, inside the UniWyo Sports Complex in Laramie, Wyo.

The weekend features Friday matches against Northwestern at 1 p.m. CT and UCSB at 6 p.m., as well as a Saturday night bout against Wyoming. First serve against the Cowgirls is set for 7 p.m.

Saturday’s match against Wyoming will stream on the Mountain West Digital Network. Live stats are available for all three of the weekend matches.

SERIES SNAPSHOT

  • Mizzou is 4-4 all-time against Northwestern. They have not met in over a decade, but the Tigers hold a 4-2 record against the ‘Cats in neutral venues.
  • Mizzou meets UCSB for the first time since 1995 and just the second time ever. The Tigers fell 3-0 in the only previous meeting.
  • The Tigers trail the Cowgirls 2-1 all-time, with their last meeting coming in 1985. This is the first time that the two teams will face off in the UniWyo Sports Complex.

COX NAMED SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

  • Freshman outside hitter Kaylee Cox showed exactly why she was ranked as a top-50 prospect out of high school, piling up 32 kills and 31 digs in her two matches played.
  • Cox turned in back-to-back double-doubles, the first for a Mizzou freshman since 2017 and just the second time a rookie has accomplished the feat in Mizzou’s SEC era.
  • Her 17 digs against Northern Kentucky set a career best in that category while her 21 kills a day later against South Dakota marked a career high.
  • Her 21 kills are the most by a Tiger in a single match this season.

MIZZOU NOTABLES

  • Junior Anna Dixon joined Cox in double figures with 14 kills in the match against South Dakota, bringing her total for the season to a team-leading 67.
  • Dixon also produced a career-best six blocks as part of a 13-rejection performance by the Tigers, a season high for the team. 
  • Sophomore libero Emily Brown dug up a career-best 25 attacks in the aforementioned bout against South Dakota, bringing her dig total for the season to 87.
  • Brown’s single-game output is the most by a Tiger since Riley Sents recorded 25 back in 2017. Brown was named to the Cardinal Classic All-Tournament Team, alongside Kaylee Cox.
  • Freshman Jordan Iliff made her Mizzou debut last weekend, recording eight kills in her first match against Louisville.
