Volleyball Defeats Spires; Extends Win Streak to Seven

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 20-ranked Columbia College volleyball team extended their win streak to seven with a 3-1 win over Saint Mary (Kan.) on Friday night.  

The Cougars seven-game win streak is the longest active streak in the American Midwest Conference (AMC).

Columbia (14-4) vs. Saint Mary (9-5)
Set 1: Columbia 25 | Saint Mary 23

Saint Mary led 15-8 early in the first set before CC came back and tied things up at 16-16. The Cougars scored nine of the final 16 points to take the set 25-23.

Set 2: Columbia 19 | Saint Mary 25
Set two was competitive, as a Danielle Prior kill gave the Cougars a 15-13 advantage, but the Spires would use a 10-3 run to take advantage of the set and go on to tie the match.

Set 3: Columbia 25 | Saint Mary 18
Set three saw the Cougars take an early advantage (11-8) after a service ace from Camila Espejo. The Spires climbed back to within one point (10-11), but that’s as close as they would get as CC used a 9-4 run to extend their lead to 20-14.

Set 4: Columbia 25 | Saint Mary 11
The Cougars hit .429 while holding the Spires to a .000 attacking percentage in the final set. Ellie Rockers recorded one of her 16 kills to give Columbia a 10-4 lead. CC used a critical 6-0 run, extending the lead to 19-7 and putting the set out of reach.
