Track and Field Primed for Round One of NCAA Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri Track and Field team is set to compete in round one of the NCAA Championships from Thursday through Saturday in Sacramento, Calif. The competition will be streamed live on ESPN­+. Live results for each event can be found here.

Freshman Sam Innes will begin the action in the hammer throw at noon on Wednesday.

The Tigers will send 22 athletes to the west regional with 16 women and six men.

On Monday, the Missouri women were ranked No. 25 in the USTFCCCA national poll.

Athletes ranked in the top 48 for their respective events qualified for the preliminary meet.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND ONE

  • Roberto Vilches, the SEC Champion in the high jump, took fourth a season ago before earning an 11th-place finish in the NCAA title meet.
  • Claudina Diaz is looking to qualify for her first-ever championship meet after taking second in the high jump at the conference championships. Diaz finished 24th in the event at last year’s prelims.
  • Missouri has five competitors in the women’s javelin led by Sophia Rivera who is looking to improve on her 8th place finish a year ago
  • The Tigers have four entrants in the women’s triple jump headlined by Arianna Fisher who ranks 13th nationally with a mark of 13.52m (44-4.25).
  • Rivera, Fisher, Vilches, Nachev, Mara Häusler and Christopher Conrad are looking to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championship meet for a second consecutive season.
  • Innes, Mitchell Small, Kelsey Schweizer, Skylar Ciccolini, Kaia Harris, Emily Offenheiser and Ames Burton are making their first appearance in the prelims.
