Track and Field Continues Season at Raleigh Relays

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri track and field team will travel to North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays on Thursday. The Tigers will send their distance runners to compete in the three-day meet.

Missouri will send 22 athletes on the road trip with 15 men’s entrants and seven women’s competitors.

The Tigers will be joined by athletes from 155 schools including host NC State.

RALEIGH RELAYS

  • Kelsey Schweizer will open her 2023 outdoor season at the meet in the 800m. Schweizer holds Missouri’s ninth overall time in the event at 2:07.09.
  • On the men’s side, freshman Drew Rogers is poised to make his outdoor debut in the 5000m after an impressive inaugural cross-country season in which he earned All-SEC Freshman Team honors.
  • Senior Mitchell Small will also be in action in the 5000m, Small placed 11th in the event at SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships a season ago.
  • Senior Marquette Hanson will open his final season of outdoor competition in the 5000m. The senior advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November.

  • Sophia Rivera claimed first and set a new program best in the javelin with a mark of 57.67m / 189-2.00
  • Ames Burton launched a new personal-best throw of 54.17m / 177-8.00 in the discus to claim first. The distance improved but maintained her No. 4 spot in the program’s all-time event leaderboard.
  • Carolina Daza placed second with a distance of 59.15m / 194-0 in the hammer throw. The mark ranks seventh all-time in program history.
  • Isabella Sokolova opened her 2023 indoor campaign with a fourth-place finish in the 100m hurdles. Sokolova ran a personal-best time of 14.04 which ranks 10th on Missouri’s all-time event leaderboard.
  • Alicia Burnett claimed fourth in the 100m with a time of 11.74, the sixth fastest in Missouri history
  • Valentina Bornaccelli finished with the university’s eighth-best mark in the javelin at 49.53m / 162-6.00.
  • Claudina Diaz finished first in the high jump clearing 1.79m / 5-10.50 and is now tied for seventh in program history.
