Tigers Make History in Preseason ITA Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – Bronte Murgett and Marta Oliviera continue to make history with the Mizzou tennis program as the pair was featured in the preseason release of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rankings as the organization released their first set of 2021-22 standings on Tuesday. Murgett and Oliviera earned a No. 7 national preseason ranking, the highest in program history. The pair ranks third among SEC pairs and are one of 18 doubles teams from the conference in the top-60. 

The pair finished the 2020-21 season with a No. 31 national ranking after compiling a 9-5 record together, which included four victories against ranked opponents. Murgett also earned a Preseason No. 34 singles ranking, the first top-50 preseason rank in program history. Murgett made history last season for the Tigers, becoming the first Mizzou player to earn a victory in the NCAA Tournament. She ended the 2020-21 season ranked No. 52 with a 17-8 record, including back-to-back ranked victories to end the regular season. 

The Mizzou tennis team kicks off its 2021-22 schedule this weekend, Sept. 11 against UT-Martin.
