Tigers Look to Defend Title in ITA Central Regional Tournament

Iowa City, IA – Mizzou Tennis is off to Iowa City to compete in its final tournament of the fall season, the ITA Central Regionals. The Tigers send Valentina Vazquez, Elys Ventura, Gabriela Martinez and Emelie Schwarte to the tournament.

Mizzou looks to defend Bronte Murgett’s title as the 2020 Central Region Champion. As a junior, No. 20 Murgett went 6-0 on her way to the championship, defeating the No. 45, 13, 29, 12, 9 and 7-seeds. In the championship, Murgett routed Malkia Ngounoue (Kansas), 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7), and claimed the first ever ITA Regional Championship in Mizzou history.

The ITA Regional Championships are broken down into 12 regional tournaments, with the doubles and singles finalists in each region advancing to the ITA National Fall Championships.

Teams invited to the ITA Central Regionals include Arkansas, Arkansas State, Bradley, Central Arkansas, Creighton, Drake, Iowa State, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas City, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri State, Nebraska, Omaha, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, SEMO, SIUE, South Dakota, St Louis, St. Thomas, Tulsa, UNI and Wichita State.

Open doubles are set to begin on Wednesday, October 20 followed by the start of open singles on Thursday, October 21. Draws have not yet been announced.
