Tigers Battle Jayhawks in Border Showdown Wednesday

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Border Showdown rivalry renews on the diamond for the 348th time on Wednesday as University of Missouri baseball (17-8, 3-6 SEC) hosts Kansas (10-16, 1-5 Big 12) at Taylor Stadium. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. on the SEC Network with Matt Schick and Lance Cormier on the broadcast.

Fans can also catch Mizzou baseball on the airwaves all season long on KTGR and the Tiger Radio Network. Tex Little and Matt Michaels will have the call.

PITCHING PROBABLES

Mizzou sends left-hander Nathan Landry to the mound for Wednesday’s start. Landry owns a 4.10 ERA on the season in 26.1 innings, including three previous midweek starts. The southpaw has fanned 34 batters while walking just four on the season.

Kansas counters with right-hander Jake Adams who is 2-0 on the season with a 4.50 ERA in seven appearances. Adams is making his third-straight midweek start, working 12.2 innings over the previous two against Wichita State while allowing two earned runs in each game.

SERIES BUSINESS

  • Mizzou and Kansas meet for the 348th time on Wednesday night. The Tigers lead the all-time series 216-129-2.
  • The Tigers are 84-32-1 at home against the Jayhawks.
  • Mizzou is looking to avenge a pair of one-run losses from a year ago.
  • The series between the Tigers and Jayhawks dates back 121 years to 1901. Mizzou won a pair of meetings, 6-3 and 13-4, to start the series.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Mizzou earned a series victory over South Carolina, taking wins on Saturday and Sunday at Taylor Stadium.
  • The Tigers got their best starting pitching of the season over the weekend, with Spencer Miles working 7.2 innings, Tony Neubeck 5.0 innings and Austin Marozas 6.2 innings. All were career highs.
  • Fox Leum and Luke Mann teamed up to drive the Tigers at the plate, with Leum going 6-for-8 with six RBI in the final two games of the series. Mann launched three homers over the final two games and produced four RBI in the finale.

OUT(FOX)ED

  • Graduate Fox Leum earned SEC Player of the Week honors with a 7-for-11 week, two home runs and nine RBI in his four games played. The Tigers were 4-0 with Leum in the lineup.
  • In the Braggin’ Rights matchup against Illinois on Tuesday, Leum put the Tigers ahead for good with a monstrous two-run home run which left the ballpark.
  • Against South Carolina, Leum went 3-for-4 with three RBI in both the Saturday and Sunday contests. He had the go-ahead two-run single in the fifth of Sunday’s series clincher.

TIGERS TURNING TWO

  • Mizzou ranks second in the SEC and 35th nationally with 22 double plays on the season.
  • 10 of the Tigers’ twin killings have come in SEC play, a mark that leads the conference.
  • Nander De Sedas has taken part in 9-of-10 double plays in conference play and 16-of-22 on the season.
  • Mizzou turned four double plays over the weekend against South Carolina.

SCOUTING THE JAYHAWKS

  • Kansas heads to CoMo with a record of 10-16 on the season and 1-5 in Big 12 play.
  • The Jayhawks hit just .249 as a team, but do feature star SS Maui Ahuna who leads the club at .443 with 29 RBI and 17 extra-base hits.
  • On the mound, Kansas owns a 6.49 ERA as a club.
  • The Jayhawks will send Jake Adams to the mound on Wednesday. The RHP is 2-0 on the season with a 4.50 ERA in seven appearances.
