Softball Racks Up AMC All-Conference and Season Awards

Columbia, Mo. – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced the members of the AMC All-Conference team, Academic All-AMC members, and the Champions of Character Team for softball.

The Cougars swept all the major awards and saw five players make First-Team All-Conference and two others named to the Second-Team.

Karolina Arbova was named Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference after hitting .433 on the season with 58 hits, 13 home runs, seven triples, five doubles, and 48 RBIs. She led the team in hits, triples, RBIs, and slugging percentage (.866).

Ella Schouten was voted as AMC Pitcher of the Year, AMC Freshman of the Year, and First-Team All-Conference. Schouten tossed 132.1 innings on the season, allowing 23 earned runs and striking out 151 compared to just 22 walks. She went 18-4 in 25 appearances with 14 complete games and seven shutouts. In addition, she went 11-34 at the plate (.324) with three doubles, eight runs scored, and two RBIs.

Athena Wheeler earned First-Team All-Conference honors, as well as, AMC Newcomer of the Year. Wheeler batted .357 in 2022 with nine doubles and 16 home runs, which set a new program record for most homers in a single season. In addition, she slugged .764 and had an on base percentage of .427.

Taylor Barnes was voted to the First-Team after hitting .388 with seven doubles, six triples, and four home runs. She drove in 28 runs and scored a team high 45 times. She also led the Cougars with 26 walks and 38 stolen bases.

Lexi Dickerson went 13-4 in the circle with an ERA of 1.41 to earn First-Team honors. Dickerson had nine complete games and seven shutouts in 94.0 innings pitched. She struck out 103 and walked just 14.

Avgustina Arbova earned a spot on the Second-Team in 2022. She batted .403 with nine doubles, five home runs, and a triple. She drove in 35 RBIs and scored 24 times. She had a slugging percentage of .597 and an on base percentage of .429.

Joining Avgustina on the Second-Team was Emily King. King hit .388 primarily out of the No. 3 spot in the lineup, while slugging .590 and an on base percentage of .432. She racked up 52 hits, with ten doubles, five home runs, and a triple. She added 38 RBIs and scored 26 runs.

Cougar Head Coach Wendy Spratt was named AMC Coach of the Year. This is her eighth Conference Coach of the Year award.

Madison Ramsey was named the team’s recipient of the AMC Champions of Character award.
