Soccer Ramps Up for Final Home Game of 2022

Soccer Huddle vs. MSU 2022

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri soccer team is scheduled for its last two-game week of the 2022 regular season. Mizzou will begin at home for its annual Pink Out game, played against Kentucky Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. CT. Following the matchup with the Wildcats, the Tigers will hit the road for College Station, Texas, and take on the Texas A&M Aggies Sunday, Oct. 23, at 4 p.m. CT.
Missouri (5-7-2, 2-4-1 SEC) is brushing off a tough 2-0 road loss at Georgia, Oct. 14. Meanwhile, Kentucky (7-7-1, 0-6-1 SEC) is still in search of its first Southeastern Conference win in 2022, having most recently tied, 1-1, with Florida, Oct. 16. Texas A&M (8-5-3, 2-4-1 SEC) is on a two-game win streak after also being winless throughout conference play. The Aggies bested No. 20 Ole Miss (2-1, Oct. 9) and Auburn (3-1, Oct. 14).

LAST TIME OUT
Missouri fell on the road to Georgia, Oct. 14, 2-0. Mizzou withstood early pressure in the first half but was able to escape the first half ahead in shots (4-3) and with the score still 0-0.
The second half did not go as planned, as Georgia took the lead in the 65th minute off a goal that bounced around in front of goalkeeper Bella Hollenbach, and into the back of the net. In the 77th minute, an unlucky bounce saw the Bulldogs awarded a penalty kick due to a handball in the box, as they netted their second of the night.
Mizzou continued to fight as Hannah Boughton rang a shot off the crossbar in the 80th minute, but the Tigers were unable to overcome the deficit.

ALL-TIME: Kentucky
Mizzou has seen the most success against Kentucky than any other league counterpart. The Tigers are 9-3-1 versus the Wildcats but have lost the last two of three games.
The last time Kentucky was in Columbia, Mo. however, Missouri did come out on top, 4-1, Nov. 1, 2020. Additionally, the Tigers put together a stretch of eight consecutive wins over the Wildcats from Oct. 5, 2012 – Sept. 13, 2018.

LAST MEETING: The Wildcats
In the last meeting between Missouri and Kentucky, Oct. 24, 2021, it was UK that came out on top, 2-0, in Lexington.
Kentucky was able to jump on the board very early in the contest as Jordyn Rhodes scored in the sixth minute. Mizzou put pressure on the Wildcats, even generating a few chances off corners, but could not sneak anything past the opposing keeper. UK added an insurance goal in the 76th minute after a free kick bounced off the crossbar and to Ulfa Ulfarsdottir.

ALL-TIME: Texas A&M
Mizzou has played Texas A&M the most out of any SEC program, with Oct. 23 being the 28th meeting between the two teams. The Aggies hold a strong advantage as Missouri is 6-18-3 against the divisional foe.
Mizzou has never won more than two consecutive matches over Texas A&M. The last time the Tigers defeated the Aggies twice in a row was in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

LAST MEETING: The Aggies
The Tigers closed out the 2021 regular season with a 1-0 win over Texas A&M, Oct. 28.
Missouri was outshot in the match, 22-6, but was still able to take the victory thanks to a first-half goal from Skye Kingsley. In the 14th minute of the contest, Jenna McCormick was able to poke a loose ball in the box to Kingsley, who buried it into the net. With 90 seconds to go, goalkeeper McKenna Sheehan received a red card, making way to Isabella Alessio. The Tigers were able to hold off the Aggies with just 10 players for the remainder of the game.

ALL-TIME: SEC
Mizzou soccer is in its 27th season of competition and has accumulated an overall record of 59-80-16 against Southeastern Conference teams. The Tigers have seen the most success versus Kentucky, holding a 9-3-1 record.
Moreover, since Missouri joined the SEC in 2012 it has totaled a record of 46-53-12 against league competition.

RANKED OPPOSITION
As it stands, Mizzou has five opponents on its 2022 schedule ranked by United Soccer Coaches. The Tigers played then-No. 1 North Carolina, Sept. 1, at home, and No. 23 Auburn, Sept. 16. The squad tied No. 21 Mississippi State, Sept. 30, and fell at No. 19 Tennessee, Oct. 6.
Missouri’s final ranked opponent on the schedule is South Carolina, who is currently tied for No. 21 in the country, and will welcome the Tigers to Columbia, S.C., Oct. 27, to close out the regular season

PUSH TO PENSACOLA
The Southeastern Conference tournament will take place in Pensacola, Fla. Sunday, Oct. 30 – Sunday, Nov. 6. With the top-10 teams in the conference earning a spot in the postseason tournament, Mizzou will need to make a push at the end of the season to secure its spot.
The Tigers are currently tied in the 10th spot with Auburn and Texas A&M at seven points. Since all three teams have not played one another, the tie-breaker goes to the team with the most points against the highest-seeded common opponent. That final spot would currently go to Auburn, as they defeated Mississippi State, Oct. 9. However, following Mizzou’s contest with Texas A&M, all three teams will have played each other.

SEC NETWORK GAMES
The Southeastern Conference announced its 2022 fall television schedule, including nationally televised games for Mizzou soccer.
