Rivera Notches Program Record at Yellow Jacket Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri’s Track and Field team’s Sophia Rivera claimed first and set a new program best in the javelin with a mark of 57.67m / 189-2.00 during day one of the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Friday.

The throw ranks No. 1 nationally in the event this season.

In addition to Rivera’s performance, four other Tigers posted top-10 program marks on Friday.

Missouri newcomer, Carolina Daza placed second with a distance of 59.15m in the hammer throw. The distance ranks seventh all-time in program history. Daza joined the Tigers in the offseason following two years at Washington State.

Isabella Sokolova opened her 2023 indoor campaign with a fourth-place finish in the 100m hurdles. Sokolova ran a personal-best time of 14.04 which ranks 10th on Missouri’s all-time event leaderboard.

Alicia Burnett claimed fourth in the 100m with a time of 11.74, the sixth fastest in Missouri history

Rounding out the top-10 program marks, Valentina Bornacelli finished with the university’s eighth-best mark in the javelin at 49.53m / 162-6.00.

NOTABLE FINISHES

  • In his outdoor collegiate debut, freshman Sam Innes opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (55.21 / 181-1.00).
  • Sydney Oberdiek placed third in the women’s hammer throw with a 58.94m (193-4.00) distance.
  • Jayson Ashford crossed the line second in the 100m at 10.59.
  • Emily Offenheiser earned first place in the shot put with a mark of 14.44m / 47-4.50.
  • Mira Baccile earned a personal-best time in the women’s 100m hurdles, finishing in 14.92s and placing ninth overall.
  • Petar Canak claimed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.72m / 22-1.00.
  • Rece Rowan earned a personal best mark of 16.03m / 52-7.250 in the long jump.
  • Skylar Ciccolini finished second behind Rivera in the javelin, the sophomore notched a mark of 55.45m / 181-11.00.
  • Atina Kamasi marked a personal-best throw of 9.82m / 163-5.00 in the event, finishing fourth.
  • Erin Zimmerman took sixth in the javelin at 46.76m / 153-5.00.
  • Kaesha George notched a personal best in the event with a distance 42.40m / 139-1.00, finishing eighth overall.
