NCAA SB: Mizzou vs. SLU

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 25 Missouri softball (29-17, 8-9 SEC) will face off with Texas A&M (27-18, 5-13 SEC) in a three-game series to finish the 2022 home slate. Game one is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Mizzou Softball Stadium.

Friday’s opener and Sunday’s 1 p.m. contest will air on SEC Network + with Ben Arnet and Nicole Hudson Entz on the call. Danielle Lawrie and Alex Pearlman will call Saturday’s game at 4 p.m. on SEC Network.

LAST TIME OUT

Mizzou took the final midweek contest of the season against Saint Louis on Wednesday, 9-3. Brooke Wilmes, Kimberly Wert and Emma Raabe each homered in the game. Mizzou has hit three homers in each of its last four games.

SERIES HISTORY

The Aggies lead the all-time series over the Tigers, 40-31. Mizzou swept the series in 2019 during Larissa Anderson‘s first year in Columbia. Tiger pitching allowed only three runs over the three games. The teams have not played since.

REWRITING THE RECORD BOOKS

Brooke Wilmes has been putting up impressive numbers of late, as she has throughout her career. Over her last eight games, she is batting .556 (17-of-29) with three doubles, six homers, 12 RBI and 13 runs scored. Wilmes has hit safely and driven in at least one run in each of those eight games.

Against Saint Louis, the graduate student crushed a two-run home run in the third inning that gave her the program record for extra-base hits. The Mizzou extra-base hits record, set by Mary Babb, had stood since 1997.

WERT ALERT

The ball has been flying off the bat of Kimberly Wert since the start of the Kentucky series. Wert has homered five times over her last four games. She earned SEC Player of the Week honors for the second time on the season after batting .857 (6-for-7) with four home runs and 13 RBI, including two grand slams.

SWEEP IN THE CIRCLE

Jordan Weber accounted for all three wins in the Tigers’ sweep of Kentucky. She is the first Tiger since Chelsea Thomas to earn the victory in all three games of an SEC series. Weber tossed 12 innings while striking out nine batters and allowing only one run. Her five-inning shutout was Mizzou’s first SEC shutout since 2018.

SENIOR DAY

Kendyll Bailey, Alexis Burks, Casidy Chaumont, Abby George, Emma Raabe, Kimberly Wert and Brooke Wilmes will all take part in the Senior Day ceremonies on Sunday. Since Hatti Moore took part in the 2021 ceremony she will still be recognized on Sunday, but in a different capacity.

The ceremony will take place after the conclusion of the final game of the series, so fans are encouraged to remain in their seats.
