No. 18 Men’s Soccer Extends Win Streak to Six

Fenton, Mo. – The No. 18-ranked Columbia College men’s soccer team extended its winning streak to six games and secured a No. 2 seed in the American Midwest Conference Tournament with a 2-1 victory at Harris-Stowe State University Wednesday in Fenton, Mo. The game was moved to St. Louis Soccer Park due to rain in the St. Louis area on Tuesday.
 
Columbia improved to 10-3-3 (6-1 AMC) with the victory, while Harris-Stowe had its three-game win streak snapped and fell to 8-5-2 (3-2-2 AMC). The Cougars have now recorded 10 or more wins in 14-straight seasons under head coach John Klein.

Jake Totty gave Columbia 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the contest on a goal assisted from James McFarlane. The tally for Totty was his first of the season.
 
The Cougars held a 7-6 advantage in shots and goalkeeper Liam Gibbs made four saves in the opening 45 minutes of play.
 
Nick Brandt found the back of the net in the 50th minute to put the Cougars up 2-0, but Harris-Stowe cut the lead in half with goal by Hubert Kopany in the 69th minute.
 
Diego Navia nearly made a two-goal game in the 74th minute, but his shot went off the post.
 
The Cougars outshot the Hornets 13-8, and Harris-Stowe had an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. Gibbs finished with four saves in net and recorded the 29th win of his career.
 
Columbia leads the all-time series with Harris-Stowe 32-7-1, and has won the last eight meetings between the two teams.
 
The Cougars conclude regular season play at Health Sciences & Pharmacy on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m.
