COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis junior Bronte Murgett (Holmfirth, Great Britain) is set to compete in the singles portion of the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships, as the draw for the singles tournament was announced on Saturday. Murgett will face Oklahoma State’s Alana Wolfberg in the first round at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday on the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Murgett and Wolfberg met twice in Mizzou and Oklahoma State’s doubleheader on Jan. 16. The first match was stopped due to the match being clinched, while the second match was won by Wolfberg in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Wolfberg was named second-team All-Big 12 this season after an 8-8 record in singles play.

Murgett will be the third individual in program history to play in the NCAA Tournament and the first since Bea Machado Santos in 2016. No Mizzou player has ever won at match at the NCAA Tournament.

Murgett was named to the All-SEC Conference second team on April 29, becoming the fourth Tiger to earn All-SEC honors and the first since Bea Machado Santos was named to the second team in 2017. A first-year Tiger after spending three seasons at New Mexico (2017-20), Murgett has posted an 18-8 in singles competition this season and currently ranks No. 31 in the Oracle/ITA National Singles Rankings. She has posted a 10-7 record in duals, including a 5-5 mark in conference and an 9-6 mark at the No. 1 position. She has two ranked wins on the season, defeating No. 50 Taylor Bridges (LSU, April 10) and No. 35 Indianna Spink (Arkansas, April 19) in her final two matches of the season.

In the fall, Murgett became the first ITA regional champion in program history after capturing the singles title at the ITA Central Regional in October, producing a 6-0 record at the tournament. Murgett entered the tournament as the No. 20 seed and defeated the No. 45-, 13-, 29-, 12-, 9- and 7-seeds to capture the title.
