Mizzou Set to Take On San Francisco, Arizona State

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri baseball (9-2) is headed to Phoenix for two weekend games against San Francisco (10-4) and Arizona State (5-9).

The Tigers’ trip replaces the originally scheduled Gonzaga series which was moved to a single midweek game due to snow in Columbia. Mizzou will face San Francisco on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. CT and then battle Arizona State on Sunday at 6 p.m. CT.

Fans can catch Mizzou baseball on the airwaves all season long on KTGR and the Tiger Radio Network. Tex Little and Matt Michaels will have the call. Sunday’s matchup against the Sun Devils will also stream on PAC-12 Plus.

PITCHING PROBABLES

Saturday – RHP Austin Troesser (3-0, 2.57 ERA) vs. LHP Weston Lombard (2-0, 1.88 ERA)

Sunday – RHP Austin Marozas (0-0, 9.00 ERA) vs. TBD

SERIES BUSINESS

  • Mizzou faces San Francisco for the first time in a decade when the Tigers meet the Dons on Saturday afternoon. The Dons swept the only previous series.
  • The Tigers are 0-3 all-time against San Francisco with the last meeting coming in 2012. The Dons took a 6-0 win in that meeting. USF won the first two games of the series by 3-1 scores.
  • Mizzou will then face Arizona State on Sunday, setting the stage for a matchup not seen since 2009. The Tigers are 3-4 all-time against the Sun Devils.
  • The Black & Gold claimed a 5-2 win in the last meeting in 2009. That meeting came in Tempe and the Tigers are 2-3 against the Sun Devils in the greater Phoenix area.

SCOUTING THE DONS

  • USF enters the weekend at 10-4 on the season. The Dons are the second-straight WCC foe for the Tigers after facing Gonzaga on Wednesday night.
  • The Dons are led at the plate by Gabe Giosso who has 11 RBI and a team-leading .351 average.
  • As a team, USF is hitting .250 on the season.
  • On the mound, the Dons own a 4.43 ERA. Opponents are hitting .251 against USF pitching.

SCOUTING THE SUN DEVILS

  • Arizona State enters the weekend at 5-9 on the season, but each of its past three losses have been by just one run.
  • In total, 5-of-9 Sun Devil losses have been by one run with two more coming by just a pair.
  • Arizona State is hitting .282 as a team, led by Conor Davis at .370 with 12 RBI.
  • On the mound, the Sun Devils have a 5.22 team ERA through 14 games. ASU has struck out 118 batters but also issued 69 walks while hitting another 22.

TROESSER’S TORRID START

  • After limited action as a freshman in 2021, hard-throwing righty Austin Troesser flashed potential during his summer in the Appalachian League.
  • The flamethrower posted a 2.78 ERA in 22.1 IP while going 5-0 en route to an All-Star selection.
  • In his first career start, Troesser tossed four innings allowing two runs while striking out six and not allowing a walk.
  • In his second start at ULM, Troesser continued his growth with a career-high five innings of one-run baseball. He struck out four and walked just one on 72 pitches to earn his second win.
  • Troesser improved to 3-0 on the season with five innings of one-run ball against Tarleton. The righty enters the weekend with a 2.57 ERA in 14.0 IP.
