Mizzou Baseball Drops 3-0 Pitchers’ Duel to Auburn

Seth Halvorsen vs. Auburn

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (14-36, 7-22 SEC) suffered a 3-0 loss against Auburn (25-25, 10-19) on Friday night at Taylor Stadium.

Auburn plated an unearned run in the first to jump to an early 1-0 lead. The visiting Tigers extended the advantage with a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the fifth.

Mizzou starting pitcher Seth Halvorsen (4-3) worked a career-long eight innings while taking the tough loss. He scattered four hits and allowed three runs, two of which were earned. Halvorsen fanned seven Auburn batters in the outing.

Mizzou mounted a rally in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with no outs, but a strikeout and 4-6-3 double play ended the game.

HEAR FROM THE SKIPPER

Head coach Steve Bieser on the pitchers’ duel…

“Definitely a well-pitched game on both sides. You saw a couple guys there that got a chance to pitch for a while in this game… [Richard] Fitts, he’s a preseason first-round pick, and was sitting up there for a while, and we saw why that was the case today. He really dominated us. Seth [Halvorsen] made one pitch and sometimes that’s the difference in the ballgame, it’s just the one pitch that got away from him. He left one hanging and that allowed them to get that 3-0 lead but our team competed, and we just got beat today.”
