Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The No. 15-ranked Columbia College men’s soccer team captured their 11th American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament Championship title since its inception in 1974. The Cougars took a 2-0 victory in their matchup this afternoon against No. 12-ranked Williams Baptist (Ark.).
In their tenth-straight win, Columbia improves to 14-3-3 on the season while earning an automatic bid to the NAIA Championship Tournament. The NAIA Men’s Soccer Selection Show is set for Monday, November 14, at 12 p.m. Opening round play beings on Thursday, November 17 at a site to be determined.
The Cougars made their offensive presence known with five shots in just ten minutes of action. Jake Totty got things started for Columbia, finding the back of the net with an assist from Erik Rajoy. This was the only goal of the opening half, giving the Cougars a 1-0 advantage. Columbia outshot the Eagles 14-2 in the first half.
Just a minute into the second period, Nick Brandt secured the final goal of the game, putting the Cougars on top 2-0. Williams Baptist had their chances with five shots on goal, but the Cougar defense was able to hold their own.
Liam Gibbs (88:36, six saves, no goals allowed) and William Reese (1:24) split time in goal for the Cougars.
