Men’s Soccer Blanks Bellevue at Home

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 19-ranked Columbia College men’s soccer team limited visiting Bellevue University to two shots on goal in a 2-0 win Wednesday at home. The shutout for the Cougars was their sixth of the season.
 
Columbia won its fourth-straight game to improve to 8-3-3, while Bellevue dropped its second-straight game to fall to 4-8-3.
 
The Cougars outshot Bellevue 17-5 and each team had eight corner kicks.
 
It was the first shot on goal for Columbia that resulted in the lone tally of the first half in the 16th minute.
 
Anthony Hyde played a long ball into the box that Ethan Blake finished after Bellevue goalkeeper Romeo Paparesta came off his line. It was the third goal of the season for Blake.
 
Paparesta made a diving stop on a penalty kick by Joey Spotanski in the 39th minute, and then had a save with 23 seconds left to keep it a one-goal game.
 
Columbia outshot Bellevue 9-3 in the first half.
 
Midway through the second half, Blake was taken down in the box which set up the second PK of the game for the Cougars. Erik Rajoy converted the penalty kick for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
 
William Reese played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves for the Cougars.
 
Columbia improved to 6-1-1 at home this season and now lead the all-time series with Bellevue 6-5-1.
 
The Cougars celebrate Senior Day against William Woods University on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Noon.
