Men’s Golf Places Sixth at Colleton River Collegiate

The Missouri men’s golf team improved its ranking by two spots on the final day of the Colleton River Collegiate, placing sixth of 12 teams. Additionally, rookie Alfons Bondesson continued his strong start to the spring season by recording his first career top-10 finish and placing second overall.

In a field that featured five schools ranked in the top 50 and four in the top 30, the Tigers carded a final round total of 284 during the third round of action. Overall, the team’s four-under total placed it sixth with a final tally of 841 and ahead of ranked teams in No. 28 Ohio State and No. 25 Cincinnati.

Bondesson carded a final round tally of 72 to finish at 10-under for the tournament – just one shot behind Michigan State’s August Meekhof. His 206 total (64-70-72) is the lowest of his career by five strokes as he became the fourth different Tiger to record a top-five finish this season.

“It feels good to finish in the top 10 for the first time,” Bondesson said. “Both my wedge play and line putting were good this week. I didn’t have a three putt all weekend and on a windy day like today, that was important. The team race was really tight and we weren’t far off from a top three finish. We did a good job finishing strong and took a step forward from the fall to gain a couple of places during the final round.”

All five Tigers in the team competition finished between a 70 and 72 in the final round as Jack Lundin led Mizzou with a two-under 70. Overall, Charlie Crockett recorded his third top-10 finish of the season by finishing eighth with an eight-under 208 (69-68-71).

“I thought our team performance was good as we really grinded out during the tournament and finished strong,” Crockett said. “Alfons had a great week and I played really solid as well. I didn’t do a lot wrong and was able to compete with consistent play.”

Senior DJ Springer followed in 34th at three-under (72-70-71), while Lundin (74-70-70) and Dawson Meek (76-72-72) rounded out the team’s effort at -2 and +4, respectively.

Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson also competed as an individual at the tournament and carded a 219 during the three rounds of action.

The Tigers return to action in three weeks, competing at the Hootie at Bulls Bay where they look to defend their title from a year ago.
