Men’s Basketball Wins Second-Straight

St. Louis, Mo. – The Columbia College men’s basketball team collected their tenth win of the season this afternoon against Harris-Stowe (Mo.) with a 71-55 defeat.

Columbia moves to 10-10 overall and 4-2 in the American Midwest (AMC). Harris-Stowe drops to 1-11 this season and 0-5 in conference play.

The Hornets began the contest with an energetic 7-0 run with 14:31 remaining in half No. 1. The Hornets led 11-4, which was also their largest lead of the game. Columbia produced six straight points of their own and eventually even the game at 13 apiece. The Cougars began to pull away late in the first half, gaining an 11-point advantage over Harris-Stowe, 31-20. Neither team scored in the last three minutes of the half.

In the first two minutes out of the second half, the Hornets came within eight points, but this was as close as they got the remainder of the game, 33-25. A steal and a dunk from Tony Burks put the cherry on top for the Cougars while also reaching their largest advantage of the contest, 64-44. Columbia went on to take a 71-55 victory over the Hornets.

Key Moment:
With 17:03 remaining in the contest, Tony Burks connected on back-to-back drives to the basket, which extended the Cougar lead to 12.
