COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou men’s basketball has added Mabor Majak to its 2022-23 roster, as announced Friday afternoon. Majak reunites with head coach Dennis Gates, after spending two seasons with him at Cleveland State.

“We are excited to welcome Mabor to Columbia,” said Gates. “Mabor spent two years in our program at Cleveland State and he understands our system and culture very well. Mabor has a tremendous work ethic and desire to become the best version of himself. He will have an immediate impact as a defender and his offensive game will continue to develop. I am excited about his work ethic and his development is on the same trajectory as the seven-footers I have coached previously.

Majak played in 23 games for Cleveland State in his sophomore season, which included scoring a career-high six points against Penn State-Behrend. The South Sudan native, also nabbed a personal-best four boards against Youngstown State (1/21). Majak saw action in 12 games in 2020-21 as a true freshman, and connected on a pair of free throws in the Vikings NCAA Tournament appearance.

“I’m very excited to join Coach Gates at Mizzou,” Majak said. “Coach took a chance on me coming out of high school, and I really appreciate that. I want to be a part of building something special here at Mizzou.”

Majak played high school basketball at Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.) where he was a three-star recruit and was the third-ranked prospect out of the state of Indiana in 2020. As a senior he averaged 11.4 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks on his way to earning Co-County Player of the Year and being a member of the Indiana All-Star game.
