Late Goal Puts Ravens Over Cougars

Atchison, Kansas – The Columbia College men’s lacrosse team traveled to take on the Ravens of Benedictine College today in KCAC action. With the game tied 6-6, the ninth-ranked Ravens scored with only 23-seconds remaining to take the 7-6 win over the Cougars. 

Columbia took the early lead after Derek Howard assisted Kellen Brechbill on a goal at the 14:14 mark. With thirteen seconds left in the first quarter, Benedictine scored to make it 1-1. Columbia took a 3-1 lead after goals from John Thomas and Ethan Houston. 

After Benedictine brought themselves back to within one, John Thomas scored again, making it 4-2 in favor of CC. It was a back-and-forth battle as both teams traded goals with Columbia getting contributions from Derek Howard and John Thomas. Benedictine would score three unanswered goals to come back and take the game, 7-6. 

Columbia falls to 1-2 on the season and will compete again this Friday as they travel to Davenport, Iowa to take on No. 5 Saint Ambrose University in more KCAC action.
