Krings, Wilmes Lead No. 15 Tigers Past Missouri State

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Laurin Krings struck out 12 while allowing only one run to lead 15-seed Missouri (37-20) to a 3-1 victory over Missouri State (27-19). Brooke Wilmes doubled twice and drove in one to lead the Mizzou offense.

Krings led the way in the circle for the Tigers, recording double-digit strikeouts for the fourth time on the year.

The Bears had a chance to get on the board first in the third inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Krings got the Bears’ cleanup hitter swinging to end the threat.

Mizzou got on the board first in the bottom half of the third thanks to a Brooke Wilmes double down the right field line. Kimberly Wert singled, putting runners on the corners, before Kendyll Bailey gave the Tigers the lead on an RBI groundout. Mizzou added a second run on an error by the Missouri State first baseman.

Missouri State got on the board in the sixth inning after a leadoff double off the bat of Krehbiel. Krings retired the next two batters, but a two-out, two-strike base hit cut the Mizzou lead to just one.

Wilmes pushed the Tigers’ lead back to two on an infield single to second base in the sixth, scoring Kendal Cook from third. Krings closed it out with another strikeout, stranding a runner on second.

NOTES

Laurin Krings tossed a complete game, allowing one run on six hits whiles striking out 12. She moves to 15-9 on the year.

Brooke Wilmes went 3-for-4 on the day with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.

Kimberly Wert and Hatti Moore each singled twice on the afternoon.

UP NEXT

The Tigers will take on the winner of the Illinois-Arizona game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 at Mizzou Softball Stadium. Television has yet to be determined.
