Columbia, MO – The Columbia College Women’s Basketball team played host to the Mustangs of Central Baptist College today, marking their second American Midwest Conference matchup up the week. After a win against Lyon College on Thursday night, the Cougars looked to go 2-0 on the week. With a dominate fourth quarter, Columbia rolled to an 85-54 win over the Mustangs, improving to 16-4 overall and 11-2 in the AMC.

The Cougars scored their first 12-points from beyond the arc before two made free throws from Hannah Ferguson gave them their first points inside. CBC shot the ball well to start the game as they kept it close for much of the first quarter. Into the second quarter, the Cougars continued to shoot well and outscored the Mustangs again, holding a 43-27 lead at the half. Mackenzie Hess led all scorers in the first half as she had 13 points, including four made three-pointers.

The Mustangs grabbed the early momentum in the third quarter and worked hard to close the deficit between CBC and Columbia. The Cougars kept pace with the Mustangs as a good three-pointer from Peyton Crowe late in the quarter helped the Columbia gain some energy as they headed into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter saw Columbia’s defense hold CBC to just six points through ten minutes of play, meanwhile the Cougars went for 24 points of their own. Nine different players scored for Columbia in the fourth quarter; further, the Cougar defense forced six turnovers from the Mustangs.

Mackenzie Hess finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Allison Stiers also had 15 points as she went five for eight from beyond the arc. DeLaney Horstman and Peyton Crowe each finished with 12 points. Mallory Shetley had 10 rebounds to go along with six points, and Abby Backes totaled nine points.
