Fox Leum Named SEC Player of the Week

Fox Leum

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri graduate student Fox Leum is the SEC Baseball Player of the Week after leading the league SEC with a .636 batting average and nine RBI, the conference office announced on Monday.

Leum went 7-for-11 at the plate over four games played last week. He hit a pair of home runs and drove in nine runs to help Mizzou to a 4-1 week, including the series victory over South Carolina. Leum recorded an RBI in all four games he played.

In Tuesday’s Braggin’ Rights matchup against Illinois, Leum sparked the black and gold to an 11-7 win with his go-ahead, two-run home run in the second inning. After adding an RBI in the Tigers’ run-rule win over SIUE, Leum led Mizzou to a series victory over South Carolina with a pair of 3-for-4 performances with three RBI.

In Saturday’s win over the Gamecocks, Leum opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. He ignited the Tigers’ eighth-inning rally with a two-run single. Mizzou went on to score five in the frame and walk-off the Gamecocks in the ninth to level the series.

On Sunday, Leum matched his output with a 3-for-4 day and three RBI. The designated hitter gave Mizzou the lead for good with a two-run single in the fifth inning. He tacked on another RBI an inning later with a two-out single into center as the Tigers went on to earn a 10-3 win in the rubber game.

Leum’s three-hit days marked a career-high for the graduate and his three-RBI performances matched his career-best set twice before. Leum is the first Tiger to earn SEC weekly honors since TJ Sikkema in 2019 and the first position player to do so since Brian Sharp in 2018.
