Fischer Named SEC Soccer Freshman of the Week

Milena Fischer FOTW

COLUMBIA, Mo. – After recording a game-winning assist and a game-winning goal in overtime of contests against Miami (FL) and Notre Dame, respectively, the Southeastern Conference has named Milena Fischer as the SEC Freshman of the Week.

The freshman from Saarbrücken, Germany has recorded points in three consecutive matches, most notably recording a brace in the overtime win against Notre Dame, including the golden goal.

Each of her goals against the Irish were from well outside the 18-yard box. The first came in the third minute of the contest from very long range. The golden goal was scored from distance as well and, despite losing her footing, she sent it into the top right corner to seal the victory for the Tigers.

Against Miami, Fischer assisted the golden goal in just the second minute of the extra period.

She is the first Missouri freshman since Sarah Luebbert in 2016 to record at least six points through five matches. Luebbert was named the 2016 SEC Freshman of the Year. Each of Fischer’s points have been recorded in the last three matches.

Winners of three-straight matches, the Tigers go on the road to face Northern Colorado and BYU on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
