Cox, Brown Power Tigers to Second-Straight Win

COLUMBIA, Mo. – One day after posting her first collegiate double-double, freshman Kaylee Cox replicated the feat with 21 kills and 14 digs to lead Mizzou (2-4) to a 25-17, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22 victory over South Dakota (0-3) in a rematch of the NCAA Tournament first round contest from April.

Cox’s 21 kills mark a career high for the freshman and the third time in five matches played that the outside hitter has racked up double-digit kills. Junior Anna Dixon joined Cox in double figures with 14 kills in the match. Dixon also produced a career-best six blocks as part of a 13-rejection performance by the Tigers.  

On the back row, sophomore libero Emily Brown dug up a career-best 25 attacks.

• Cox and Brown were named to the Cardinal Classic All-Tournament Team.
• Anna D’Cruz posted seven blocks to set her Mizzou career high.
• Brown’s 25 digs are the most by a Tiger since Riley Sents recorded 25 back in 2017.
• Cox added a pair of aces, also a career high for the rookie.
• Mizzou’s 13 total blocks mark a season high.
• Graduate student Brynn Carlson recorded a pair of solo blocks.
• Freshman Kayla Burbage added six kills and four blocks while hitting .455.

Mizzou returns to action next weekend at the Rumble in the Rockies hosted by Wyoming. The Tigers will face Northwestern, UCSB and the host Cowgirls beginning Friday, Sept. 10.
