HANNIBAL, Mo. – The No. 14-ranked Columbia College men’s soccer team began American Midwest Conference (AMC) action this afternoon at Hannibal-LaGrange, picking up a 3-1 road win over the Trojans.
Columbia improves to 4-1-3 overall and 1-0 in AMC action.
Guy Baskerville got things started off a corner kick in the 24th minute, assisted by Paul Morpurgo. The Cougars took nine shots in the first half, notching one goal, compared to four shots from the Trojans.
Five minutes into the second stanza, Nedim Sarajlija found the back of the net, assisted by Rece Gilmore, 2-0.
Columbia had a strong offensive presence in the second half, taking 16 shots while connecting on two.
Nathan Durdle gave the Cougars an extra insurance goal, taking a 3-0 lead over the Trojans in the 61st minute, assisted by Carter Redford and Rece Gilmore.
Each of the three goalscorers for the Cougars in today’s contest recorded their first goal on the season, while Rece Gilmore added his third assist.
Hannibal-LaGrange eliminated the shutout victory for Columbia as Linus Saewe recorded a goal in the 64th minute.
The Cougars came out on top over the Trojans, picking up a 3-1 advantage.
Alejandro Molto Munoz made five saves in the contest, producing his second win on the season.
Columbia is back in action Tuesday, September 26 against Bellevue (Neb.) at R. Marvin Owens Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
