Cougars Fall to CMU in Tight Contest

Fayette, Mo. – The Columbia College Cougars men’s basketball team dropped a road contest at Central Methodist, 62-61. The Cougars fall to 4-5 overall, while the Eagles move to 7-0.
 
The first half was back and forth as neither team held an advantage larger than seven points, which came at the 1:59 mark in the half as CMU led CC, 27-20. The Eagles would take a 29-24 lead into the locker room.
 
CMU took a 13-point (48-35) lead with 10:28 remaining in regulation, but CC came storming back to tie the game at 51-51 with 5:32 left. The Eagles responded with an 8-0 run to increase the lead back to eight points (59-51). Once again, the Cougars did not give up and scored the following seven points, capped off by a Tony Burks layup to bring Columbia back within one point (59-58) with 30 seconds left. After a free throw by CMU made the score 60-58, the Cougars came down and saw Beau Washer sink a three-pointer to give CC a 61-60 lead with eight seconds left. CMU raced down the court, and Columbia was called for a foul, in which the Eagles made both foul shots giving them the 62-61 win.

After the Cougars took a 61-60 lead with eight seconds left, CMU drained two free throws with two seconds on the clock to take the one-point win.
