Ciccolini, Rivera Claim First Team All-American Honors at NCAA Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Track and Field’s Skylar Ciccolini and Sophia Rivera placed fifth and sixth, respectively in the javelin at the NCAA Championships Thursday night in Austin, Texas.

Ciccolini threw a season-best mark of 56.03m (183-10) in the event to earn First Team All-American honors. She claimed second-team honors a season ago.

Rivera notched a mark of 55.92m (183-5) as she earned a first-team appearance for the second time in her collegiate career. The senior also holds a second-team honor from last season.

Rivera owns the school record in the event (57.67m / 189-2) which she set at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on March 17.

The Brentwood, Mo. native advanced to the title meet with a second-place finish at the SEC Championships and an eighth-place finish during the west prelims.

Ciccolini punched her ticket to the championships with a fourth-place result in the preliminary round.
