Chavis joins Cougar women’s hoops staff

Former Mizzou standout Jordan Chavis is joining the Columbia College women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach.

A native of Lexington, North Carolina, Chavis started all 30 games her senior year at Mizzou and averaged 7.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 27.6 minutes per game. That year, she shot a remarkable 42.4 percent beyond the 3-point arc, which ranks seventh all-time in program history. Jordan played in 130 games over her Tiger career and ranked fifth in program history in 3-pointers made (149) and eighth in 3FG percentage (.363).

“I am thrilled to be adding Jordan to our program,” said Head Women’s Basketball Coach James Arnold. “She stood out quickly in the interview process and as time went along it become obvious she was the right fit. Jordan’s experiences, knowledge, and expertise will be a huge asset for our ladies.”

Chavis has kept busy since completing her collegiate career in 2020, notching a pair of seasons of professional play in Europe, as well as coaching with Kingdom Hoops AAU program and doing individual training. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Parks, Recreation, and Sport. Off the court, she was a member of the SEC Leadership Council and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and University Dean’s List. 

“I’m more than excited to become part of the Columbia College family,” said Chavis. “The staff matches the intensity and togetherness that I have carried with me throughout my basketball career. I can’t wait to get started and provide whatever is needed to help this program continue to grow.”

Chavis’ first day at Columbia College will be August 1.
