Cardinals fire manager Mike Shildt

The St. Louis Cardinals announced Thursday that they have parted ways with manager Mike Shildt.

President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak said Thursday there were “philosophical differences” between Shildt and the club, and ”with just one year remaining on Mike’s contract, it was in everyone’s best interests that we address this now.”

Shildt became manager in the middle of the 2018 season, taking over after the firing of Mike Matheny. He led the Cardinals to three straight postseason appearances and was named NL Manager of the Year in 2019. Over his time as manager, the Cardinals were 252-199 overall.

There is no word yet on who will replace Shildt as manager.
