Matt Albers’ bases-loaded wild pitch to Miguel Tejada scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning of a 2-1 Kansas City Royals victory over the Cleveland Indians.
The Royals won despite another no decision from James Shields, whose lone blemish was a solo home run allowed to Carlos Santana.
Eric Hosmer got the Royals on the board with an eighth-inning double to right field, giving way to the ninth-inning rally. Billy Butler doubled, and Lorenzo Cain walked in front of a David Lough bunt single to load the bases for the wild pitch.
Aaron Crow got the final two outs of the eighth inning for the win, while Greg Holland shut the door in the ninth for his 15th save.
Kansas City leapfrogged Cleveland to jump into second place in the AL Central, five games behind first-place Detroit. Ervin Santana faces Ubaldo Jimenez in game two of the series at 6:05 PM Tuesday.
