Wainwright puts Cards on Brink of Series

Adam Wainwright pitched 7 strong innings in the NLCS to lead the Cardinals in Game 4 last night in St. Louis.

Coming into the game, the concern was over Carlos Beltran’s left knee, which would keep him out of the game.  No worries for the Cardinals as Matt Carpenter, who homered in Game 3, made the start and scored in the first inning.  St. Louis would score two runs in the first, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to pick up an 8-3 victory.

Wainwright was masterful though his 7 innings of work.  He struck out 5, allowing just 4 hits ad one run.  The lone run he allowed was a mammoth home run by Hunter Pence.  He was replaced in the bottom of the inning by pinch hitter Shane Robinson.  Fernando Salas pitched the 8th and the 9th for the Cardinals to secure the win.

St Louis is one game away from returning to the World Series for the second consecutive year and their 4th since 2000.  They’ll have a chance to clinch at home once again, as they’re 6-0 in their last 6 elimination games.  It’ll be Lance Lynn on the mound taking on Barry Zito of the Giants.

Things will get started at 6:10pm with pregame.  First pitch comes at 7pm on your home for the defending world champion St. Louis Cardinals, ESPN 100.5 KTGR.
