Adam Wainwright threw a complete-game, shutout victory allowing two hits as the St. Louis Cardinals blanked the Washington Nationals, 8-0, Thursday night.
Matt Adams drove in three and Matt Holliday brought home two as Wainwright did the rest with eight strikeouts.
The Nationals did not help Taylor Jordan on offense or defense with four committed errors in the ballgame.
The Cardinals needed some bullpen relief, one night after losing Joe Kelly to the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
St. Louis and Washington meet tomorrow with Michael Wacha facing Gio Gonzalez. Coverage on the Zimmer Sports Network begins at 5:10 PM.
