The St. Louis Cardinals held serve on their home field, as Michael Wacha made a lonely run stand in a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Wacha scattered five hits and striking out eight. His only trouble frame came when he loaded the bases with one out in the sixth but Wacha struck out Yasiel Puig and Juan Uribe to end the threat.
St. Louis scored its only run on a fifth-inning sacrifice fly from Jon Jay. The Cardinals bullpen used four pitchers to record the final 10 outs in succession including the last five batters via strikeouts.
