Missouri faced a daunting challenge Tuesday evening when they welcomed #5 Florida to Mizzou Arena. The Tigers were ready, however, battling back from down as many as 13, as they bested the GAtors 63-60 for one of their signature wins of 2012-2013.
After being tied 4-4, the Gators jumped to an 18-6 lead early in the first half. The Tigers got back in the game, Lawrence Bowers had 9 first half points, getting their deficit to within 3 by halftime, at 29-26.
In the second half, the Tigers fought to get back in the game, getting the lead down to 1 on 4 seperate occasions while also trailing by their largest margin of 13. The final time, Jabari Brown hit a deep 3 to get the score to 57-56. On the next possession for Mizzou, Phil Pressey hit just his second field goal of the game to give the Tigers a 58-57 lead.
After a Scottie Wilbekin 3 gave Florida a 60-59 lead, Lawrence Bowers put in a pass from Pressey to give Mizzou a 61-60 lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Keion Bell sealed the game with a critical rebound and two free throws to seal the final of the game.
Lawrence Bowers led all scorers in the game with 17 points. He was one of three Tigers in double figures as Jabari Brown had 12 points while Earnest Ross had 11. Missouri got 10 assists from Pressey to lead the team (he had 10 of the team’s 11 assists). Bowers completed his double double with 10 rebounds to lead the team.
Missouri is now 19-7 on the season and improves to 8-5 in the SEC. They’re on the road for the next two games, starting with a trip to historic Rupp Arena to take on the Kentucky Wildcats this Saturday at 8pm.
