Thursday wasn’t Jeremy Guthrie’s best night.
The Kansas City starter allowed eight runs in four innings of work, and the Detroit Tigers mauled the Royals 16-4 at Kauffman Stadium.
Detroit struck for three runs in the first frame, three in the fourth, and eight more in the fifth. Billy Butler’s third home run of the season was one of the night’s lone bright spots in the bottom of the fourth, and Eric Hosmer added a two-run shot in the seventh, once the game had been decided.
The Royals look to rebound Friday night at the K. Danny Duffy will try to pitch KC past the Tigers’ Anibal Sanchez. First pitch is set for 7:10 pm Friday.
