Mizzou was in Orlando, FL Saturday afternoon and despite a slow start, got a few big plays to leave the home of Disneyworld with a win.
It looked like the Tigers still had a hangover from last week’s frustrating performance against South Carolina. Central Florida used short passes and a strong first half from Storm Johnson to take a 10-7 lead at halftime. Mizzou’s TD came on an 80 yard TD pass from James Franklin to heralded freshman Dorial Green-Beckham. Green-Beckham broke a tackle near midfield and was off for the races.
In the second half, Mizzou rediscovered its run game, with Kendial Lawrence exploding for 103 yards and one TD on 18 carries. Marcus Murphy also returned his 3rd punt for a TD of the season, tying Jeremy Maclin’s career record at the school. The Knights added a late touchdown, but Jeff Godfrey’s fumble with less than 3 minutes left in the game secured the win for the Tigers.
In the game, the Tigers extended their streak of forcing a turnover to 23 games.
Mizzou was lead by EJ Gaines and Sheldon Richardson on defense. Gaines finished the game with 13 total tackles while Richardson added 9 tackles and 1 sack. James Franklin finished 19/30 with 257 yards and the one TD pass to DGB. Marcus Lucas led all recievers with 5 catches for 33 yards.
Mizzou heads home to Faurot Field next Saturday night as the Tigers host the Vanderbilt Commodores. The game kicks off at 6pm, but you can hear our coverage beginning at 3pm with Tiger Gameday presented by Tucker’s Fine Jewelry.
