Mizzou pulled away late in a back and forth contest against the Stanford Cardinal.
In the opening game of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, the Missouri Tigers closed out the Stanford Cardinal to pick up a 78-70 victory Thanksgiving afternoon.
Mizzou led by as many as 12 in the game, but Stanford, last year’s postseason NIT champions, would not go away. Mizzou led 37-34 at the half and the Cardinal held an early second half lead. The Tigers would pull away late, but never led by more than 8 in the second 20 minutes on their way to the victory.
Lawrence Bowers (19pts/10rebs) and Earnest Ross (10pts/11rebs) each had a double double and Phil Pressey and Alex Oriakhi also scored in double figures. Pressey also led the team in assists with 8.
Chasson Randle led Stanford, and all scorers, with 22 points in the game.
Mizzou will take on #2Louisville Friday night in round 2 of the Battle 4 Atlantis. Pregame will begin on KTGR and KCMQ at 8pm. Tip-off comes at 830pm on your home for the Missouri Tigers, ESPN 100.5 and Total Sports Station 103.1 KTGR, KCMQ, and the Zimmer Sports Network.
